Rosaleen decided to start a series of Earth Hero presentations to Earth Club. Have a look at what Rosaleen found out about Greta below...
Here is Rosaleen's slide show presentation. Take a look below for even more information to go with each slide!
●Greta Thunberg is an environmental activist.
●She was born in Sweden.
●Her parents taught her to be kind to nature.
●When she was eight, she started learning about climate change.
●The more she learned, the more she wondered why so little was being done about it.
●When Greta was 11 years old her doctor discovered that she had Asperger’s syndrome.
●Asperger syndrome is a condition that affects how people socialise. Socialising for children means how we talk and play with each other.
● Greta called her condition a positive thing, she called it her “superpower”!
●She meant that it helped her to focus really intensely on her interest in climate change which then also helped her be a great climate change campaigner.
●When Greta was 15 years old, in August 2018, she decided to take action.
●One day instead of going to school, she made a big sign that read ‘SCHOOL STRIKE FOR CLIMATE’, and she calmly sat down outside the Swedish parliament.
●The parliament in most countries is where lots of lawmakers and Politicians go to make important decision about how a country should be run, including decisions that are made to do with how to take care of the environment.
●She sat outside of parliament with her sign to try and make the politicians take notice and do something to help the environment.
●The newspapers and radio programmes noticed Greta and soon the word started to spread.
●Before long, tens of thousands of students from around the world joined her in what became the Fridays for Future strikes – where students would not go to school on Fridays and instead would use their time to protest against climate change.
●In March 2019, just 7 months after she first started all by herself, climate campaigners across the world, inspired by Greta, came together for the first World-wide Strike for Climate. It was huge – over 1.6 million people from 125 countries took part!
●From the actions of one little girl, came the voices of 1.6 million people, who all stood up to join her!
